ROLANDO's BAPTISMAL CERTIFICATE

After a long wait, my efforts paid off. It was indeed another blessing for the both of us. The parish really helped us with our issues. Special thanks to Marilyn Requina - Nonoc Island Parish Secretary, who's efforts are valuable in letting us obtain the precious document. She has extended her help in traveling from Nonoc Island to the city proper just to send the document to us. God has helped us as always when I needed him the most.

The Marriage License

MARRIAGE LICENSE PROCESSING TIPS (CITY OF LAPU-LAPU)

• Both of you should go to the nearest city hall (Local Civil Registry) to apply for marriage license. Lapu-Lapu City Civil Registry is located at the 2nd floor of the LTO office.
  
• Prepare the following documents: CENOMAR (Photocopy), NSO Security Paper (Original), Parents Advice (21-24 yrs. old) or Parents Consent (18-20 yrs. old).
  
• You must know the COMPLETE names of your parents, especially mothers full maiden name.
• Upon application, an interview will follow
• Family Planning seminar will then be scheduled on Friday 8am-5pm
• Your names will be posted for 10 days, and will be claimed thereafter

2. One (1) Sponsor

TAKE NOTE!

• Your husband to-be or wife to-be should not take part of the sponsorship
• Those who are also to be confirmed are not allowed to be a sponsor
• Keep your payment receipts, this will be used to claim the certificate
• During the ceremony, when all those to to be confirmed falls in line to be blessed with oil should bring their Baptismal certificate noted with the Sponsor's name and signature. It will then be given to the priests assistant after oil blessing.

Case 1

ROLANDO'S BAPTISMAL CERTIFICATE

CASE ISSUE

• Rolando is born in Surigao City, Surigao del Norte. Part of the Church's requirement is the new issuance of baptismal certificate. Issue here is how to get the new baptismal certificate!

• Nonoc Church is located in an Island of Surigao del Norte where small boats travel rarely and would cost 100.00 pesos roundtrip.

• In addittion, Cebu to Surigao del Norte trips are scheduled. In Nonoc there is no lodging accommodations, you have to spend the night at the barangay hall.

• There is no assurrance that you can claim the certificate on the spot

• There is no telephone line at the Island to where the Church is located

CASE SOLUTION

• The parish secretary has provided the telephone number of the Diocese of Surigao
• Inquired the Diocese of Surigao on how to claim of such certificate in Nonoc Island
• The Diocese of Surigao provided us the mobile phone number of the parish secretary
• Contacted and requested the parish secretary of Nonoc to send the certificate via courier
• Payment is sent to the parish secretary via courier

CHURCH ACTIVITIES

• The parish secretary requires at least the NSO Security Paper and Baptismal Certificate to verify the names such as spellings, etc.
• The secretary would then ask for each addresses to identify the Marriage Banns to prepare. Marriage Banns are sent to churches to announce the marriage, to confirm that each party has no impediment. Marriage Banns are prepared by the secretary in a letter form for the couple to submit to affected Churches i.e. Church to where baptized, Churches in previous residence. A Parish Permit is required if the woman is not to be wed in the jurisdiction of the Church under her residence. In my case a fee of 500.00 is required to claim such permit.
• Attend a PRE-CANA seminar. This activity will inform all about the marriage ups and downs. A simulation of the wedding ceremony is also practiced during the seminar.

WEDDING CEREMONY HOUSE RULES

• Wedding Gown - Clevage, Backless, Spaghetti Strap, Tube etc. that exposes the upper chestline of the bride is a no no!
• Photographers - Specified areas in the church as to where a photo is taken
• Secondary Sponsors Attire - same rules apply to wedding gown
• Flower Girls - Obtained their 1st Communion. No petals should be thrown during ceremony
• Ring, Bible, Coin Bearer - Obtained their 1st Communion
• Bestman's role is to facilitate the ring, bible and coin during the ceremony when needed
• Maid of Honor's role is to assist the Bestman when facilitating the ring, bible and coin
• The Veil should be secured on top of the bride's head
• Bride and Groom should remember when to respond to the priest
